Begin Rummy by learning what makes a hand valid. Once the terms below are familiar, practise grouping cards and reading the draw and discard controls before considering a paid table.
What You Are Trying to Declare
Arrange the thirteen cards into the combinations required by the table. A declaration must satisfy all its rules; getting rid of difficult cards alone is not enough. Confirm the scoring conditions for the format you choose.
Words You Will See in the Rules
- Cards in a run: Three or more consecutive ranks in the same suit form a sequence. When no joker substitutes, it is called a pure sequence. For example, 5♥, 6♥ and 7♥ form one. This joker-free run is required in the usual Indian Rummy declaration rules.
- Cards of equal rank: A set brings together three or four matching ranks in different suits, such as A♠, A♥ and A♦.
- Using a joker: A permitted substitute can help form a set or an impure sequence. Read which cards count as jokers at that table.
